1. Private Car or Rental Car – Best for Flexibility

One of the most convenient ways to reach Terelj National Park from Ulaanbaatar is by renting a car or hiring a private driver. The drive is approximately 65 kilometers (40 miles) and takes about 1.5 hours. The roads are mostly paved, but some areas can be bumpy, so a 4×4 vehicle is recommended, especially in winter.

  • Start from Ulaanbaatar city center and head east on the paved road towards Nalaikh District.
  • Continue on the Terelj Highway, following signs for Gorkhi-Terelj National Park.
  • After crossing the bridge at the entrance, continue driving toward Turtle Rock and Aryabal Monastery.
